It got really cold last night so I didn’t sleep too well. I got up about 4:30 and decided to go see the sun rise over Crater Lake. I got to the rim just in time to see the sun creep up over the east rim. It was really impressive. I spent a couple hours traveling around the rim taking pictures. About half of the rim was still closed because of snow. There were sections of the road where there were 20 feet walls of snow on each side.
At about 8:00 I was dragging a little so I setup my chair, sat and listened to an audio book and just enjoyed the view.
Because I started so early I was all done taking pictures well before noon. I headed towards Grants Pass on the way I passed a river and saw a photographer taking pictures so I pulled over and took some of my own. I’m not sure where it was, but there was a ravine formed by lava tubes. It was pretty cool and I’m glad I pulled over. I ate lunch in Grants Pass and headed on to Crescent City, CA.
When I entered the Redwood Forest I stopped at the ranger station and they gave me some good advice on things to do. I walked though Stout Grove and saw some huge trees. I then continued on and stayed the night at Kamp Klamath. There is nothing fancy about it but they have electricity and they had a band playing.
