NY Times: A Photo Finish Too Close to Call

USA Track & Field
I was at the US Olympic Trials yesterday and witnessed Ashton Eaton break the World Record in the decathlon. I thought that was pretty amazing then I saw the final US Team spot in the women’s 100m awarded to Jeneba Tarmoh after posting a time just 1/1000 better than Allyson Felix. On the drive back from Eugene I read on twitter that the race had been officially declared a tie. I also received and email from Sam Borden of the New York Time asking if I could shed some light on the photo finish system that was used. I talked with Sam for about 25 minutes this morning explaining how FinishLynx worked. I don’t know if will appear in the printed version of the Times, but here is the article posted on the New York Times website.

A Photo Finish Too Close to Call, Even by Camera

The original article was edited and removed my mentions. But Sam posted a blog post with a little more information.

When a Dead Heat Is More Than a Photo Finish
