Of the seven photographs I submitted to the Oregon State Fair, five of them were accepted for display. I entered five photographs in the Oregon Salon of Photography, three in the color division and two in the monochrome division. All three of my color images were accepted for display. Duck in Flight earned 18 points and The Pickup Man earned 19 points. My photo Balancing Act received 20 points and an honorable mention. 

I had one monochrome image accepted and one rejected. Path of Serenity received a score of only 10, but Spinning Cattail received 15 points, enough to make the cut for display.

In the International Exhibit I had one photo accepted and one rejected. City in Reflection received a score of 18 while A Disappearing Act received a measly 12.

For my first time submitting photos for the State Fair I think I did pretty well. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed. I though all of my photos were good enough to be exhibited. I also thought I might have one that was good enough to win, but I can’t complain about an honorable mention.

This process was a good learning experience and I look forward to seeing my photos exhibited.

After breaking camp I headed to San Francisco. Naturally my first stop was to see the Painted Ladies, the houses in the opening of the classic television series Full House. After looking for the Tanners, I headed down to Fishermans Wharf. I wandered around there for a while snapping pictures here and there.

I was just about to head back to the track when I passed a tour boat that was just about to leave. I paid $15 for an hour trip under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. The Fog was really bad so I thought this might be my only shot to get some shots of the bridge.

On the way back to the truck I stopped at In `N Out Burger. It was a good burger, but I still don’t get the hype. Outside I ran into a one-man-band. This guy was awesome. He was singing, playing guitar, drums harmonica, kazoo… it was incredible.

Just before heading back over the Golden Gate Bridge, I stopped at the Palace of Fine Arts. They were doing some construction inside, but it was still incredible, like something out of ancient Greece.

On the other side of the bay I stopped to see if I could get some shots of the bridge. It was foggy and I couldn’t see the other side of the bridge and sometime the near side. Every now and then the fog would clear for about 10 seconds and I could get a couple shots off.

My last stop of the day was San Quentin. I figured it was only about 5 minutes out of the way so I drove down. I could get close enough to get any good shots of the prison itself, but I got a shot of me in front of the sign.

Another KOA for the night, tomorrow I visit the TWiT Cottage
